Y’all Is Fantasy Island
Formed in 2001 in Falkirk, Central Scotland as a solo outfit by Adam Stafford, the fully-formed band came to fruition in 2005 after Tommy Blair (guitar) and Jon McCall (drums/clarinet) joined out of the ashes of the Falkirk improv collective Chuck Norris Machine. They recorded their debut album “In Faceless Towns Forever” in Summer 2005, it was issued on local label Panic in Year Zero a year later.
The group un-did themselves around the Central Belt area in 2006, playing with the likes of The Handsome Family, Frightened Rabbit, Lach and Thomas Truax amongst many and were joined by Robbie Lesuik on bass guitar. In 2007 Jon and Robbie left the band to be replaced by Steven Tosh (drums/various other instruments) and Jim Macleod (bass).
In 2008 they issued three LPs (all self-recorded), “Rescue Weekend”, “No Ceremony” and “Infanticidal Genuflector”, which were all highly praised by the press. They recorded a BBC Radio One session for Vic Galloway in August 2008 and continued to play live regularly until the end of the year.
The group went on hiatus in 2009 and only played a smattering of live shows including The Heavenly in London, Oxjam Edinburgh and a support for Rough Trade’s Warpaint in Oct 2010. After some deliberation, they abandoned work on their proposed 5th LP Summer on Elm Wood and decided to split, playing their farewell show in Edinburgh in March 2011.
