“Music in The Mirabel” (mini covers-LP)
Download for FREE here!
“Highly original, utterly georous mini-LP of cover versions of Devo, The Twilight Sad and others, with a notable list of contributors including Emily Scott and Alan Bissett.” 5/5 – The List
“Daniel Johnston’s ‘Blue Clouds’ – something of a showstopper in live, looped mode – is recognisable in all its genius, the cover of Devo’s ‘Big Mess’ is something of a revelation, and adds a decided new dimension to the song and makes you wonder why Johnny Cash never covered it.” 4/5 – Is This Music?
“…it manages to retain the most pivotal aspects of each of these tracks whilst significantly altering them… There is the distinct feeling of a narrative being thread through the album, if not through lyrics then at least through a carefully chosen sequence of imagery. Each of these tracks have been chosen for a reason and they form a wonderfully coherent collection that is worthy of being considered an album in it’s own right, rather than simply a collection of others work.” – Sonic Reverie
” Opener Blue Clouds is the highlight, retaining only the vocal of Daniel Johnston’s original, otherwise built upon layers of looping vocals – hums, swooshes and rambles – towards a rousing climax. The Twilight Sad’s Walking For Two Hours is stripped of its ferocious guitars and righteous vocals in favour of a disquietingly placid take, and Devo’s Big Mess is completely reimagined, the peppy synth-driven original rendered as a slow, creepy tale of mental instability. A lesson in musical recomposition.” 3/5 – The Skinny
