Adam Stafford plays Roxy Arts Theatre in Edinburgh 15th of August (NOTE: this show has now been cancelled!), No Dancing in Stereo in Glasgow on August 27th and the ECC stage at London’s Offset Festival on September 6th.

After issuing their debut mini LP, “Music & Maths” on Chaffinch Records to across-the-board 4 & 5 star reviews, Glasgow’s Burnt Island return to Wise Blood Industries with a double A-side of “Hiding Out” (taken from the LP) and an unreleased track, “Gambler’s Dream”.

The band, who have been active in various incarnations in Glasgow over the last 4 years are headed-up by acclaimed author Rodge Glass (No Fireworks, Hope For Newborns, Alasdair Gray: A Secretary’s Biography, The Year of Open Doors) and features the line-up of Malcom Jack, Rik Evans, Amber Comerford and Andrew Campbell.

The Kays Lavelle‘s beautiful debut LP “Be Still This Gentle Morning” is finally available to buy and download from here now and from iTunes. If you don’t already have the album please do go and get a copy and immerse yourself in their aurally delightful midnight world full of building pianos, swelling strings, uncluttered space and throbbing drums.

It’s rare we release full-blown pop on WBI, but Glasgow’s Paws (pictured) have it droves with their single “Violent Vicky Violet” and its B-side “Kim Deal”. Channelling the chiming guitars and stomping fat drums of early Dinosaur with the pop sensibilities of Urusie Yatsura and fresh from supporting Ariel Pink and The Dum Dum Girls, download the single for nowt here!

Glasgow’s Burnt Island return to WBI with a special single release of “Hiding Out” from their mini “Music & Math” coupled with a brand new unreleased track “Gamblers Dream” on Monday 12th.

Adam Stafford and his newly assembled band The Death Bridge Convention issue a mini covers LP “Music in The Mirabel” for free download on Saturday 24th and Jamie Sturrock follows his first EP “Giascape” with his, yet untitled, second a week later on Saturday 31st.

The brilliant Kays Lavelle issue their debut LP “Be Still This Gentle Morning” today (Monday 17th) in all good record shops in Central Scotland (Glasgow and Edinburgh). The LP is available directly from here now and from iTunes.

The Blogesphere has been going crazy over the LP since its unfortunate leak a few weeks ago, you can read a glowing review here, and on various other blogs if you type it into your search engine.

The band are promoting the LP regularly live and have a smattering of Summer shows along with an Autumn tour lined up. Check their myspace for gig details.

Adam is also making some public appearances over the next few months, namely supporting the wonderful Conquering Animal Sounds at The Wee Red Bar on Saturday 15th of May, supporting the disgustingly awesome Over The Wall at their LP launch in Oran Mor in Glasgow on 27th of May, at the literature/music evening Words Per Minute in Creation Studios in the Trongate in Glasgow on May 6th and performing the ECC stage at London’s Offset festival September 4-5!

Switching one moment from super-slow heroin drone, to a Cappella gabber, to warped spoken word and poignant guitar interludes, many will find MPHE the audio equivalent of Danny Devito’s semen – luminescent green, bitter and with a hint of spice.

A “properly” recorded single, Shot-down You Summer Wannabes is available via our releases page, but for now, immerse yourself in what can only be described “alfmh;npafm“.

Limited edition CD-R versions of the album, with hand-drawn art can be found in Avalanche records in Glasgow.

And he hasn’t let us down, with this, his new EP recorded and produced with Edinburgh musician Jim Megaw.    

Five perfect songs permeate what could be Jocky’s finest work (and most sonically “produced”) so far. From the poignant, and down-right poppy, opening track Brains, Busses & Trains (check out that chorus and the 60′s reverby percussion!) to the angry thrash banjo hoe-down of Don’t Chill Out, REVOLT! which would have Woody Gutherie raising his right fist if he were still alive. We really hope this EP gets the recognition that Jocky deserves as one of the most intelligent and witty anti-folk songwriters working in Scotland today.

It’s with great pleasure to announce that Wise Blood Industries will be  hosting the new single from Glasgow’s Burnt Island for free download!

Burnt Island is based around the songs of Rodge Glass (vocals, acoustic guitar). The band has evolved several times since forming in 2007, with various friends coming and going along the way. The now-stable line-up includes Rodge’s longest serving collaborator, Malcolm Jack (electric guitar, bass, vocals), also Rik Evans (viola), Amber Comerford (flute, vocals) and Andrew Campbell (bass, keys, vocals). That is, provided they’re not playing with other bands, studying for Masters degrees, making television programmes in the Hebrides or performing with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra on that particular day. The band have been Vic Galloway’s ‘Unsigned Heroes’ on his BBC Radio Scotland show, and played at both the Triptych and Connect festivals, as well as supported the likes of A Hawk and a Hacksaw, Hjaltalin, Sleeping States and The Phenomenal Handclap Band in 2009.  Rodge, also an award-winning novelist and biographer of the Glaswegian artist Alasdair Gray, contributed to Ballads of the Book, an album released in 2007 by Chemikal Underground Records which featured collaborations between authors and musicians. He co-wrote and performed the track ‘The Fire’ together with highly influential folk legend Vashti Bunyan.

Burnt Island are putting the finishing touches to their Chem19-recorded debut album which is scheduled for release next year. They play a show with author Alan Bissett and WBI’s Adam Stafford at the Captain’s Rest on Great Western Rd in Glasgow on Friday the 5th of February 2010. We hope you can make it along!

Originally intended to be released in September, Adam Stafford’s official debut solo album Awnings is a fresh cock-flash in the face of the modern Scottish music constabulary. As a man without peers, Stafford’s LP is a swirling fist storm of a cappella improv madness, constructed from maddening complex algo-rythms and throbbing techno vulgarity amongst flashes of wayward electronic beatboxing and spoken word poetry, utilising only his mere throat and two loop pedals.

And all recorded in an intense 3 hour improv session in mid-September, it really does put most albums on the so-called “best-of” lists this year to shame (Pitchfork baulk!).

Not every-one’s cup of poisoned tea – moderate rock fans stay away!
